Book Binder

Job Summary:

Craft and repair books, journals, and other bound materials using various binding techniques and materials.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Bind and repair books, journals, and other materials
2. Select and prepare binding materials (leather, paper, cloth)
3. Operate binding machinery (sewing, gluing, trimming)
4. Hand-tool and finish bindings
5. Restore and conserve rare or damaged books
6. Collaborate with clients on custom binding projects
7. Maintain workshop organization and safety
8. Perform quality control checks

Requirements:

1. Formal training in bookbinding (apprenticeship or certification)
2. 2+ years of bookbinding experience
3. Knowledge of binding techniques and materials
4. Manual dexterity and attention to detail
5. Familiarity with book conservation principles

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Degree in bookbinding, conservation, or related field
2. Certification from recognized bookbinding organizations
3. Experience with rare book conservation
4. Familiarity with book design and printing
5. Teaching or workshop experience
