Literacy Teacher
Job Summary:
A Literacy Teacher is responsible for teaching reading and writing skills to students, typically in elementary or middle school settings. The Literacy Teacher will develop and implement engaging lesson plans, assess student progress, and provide individualized support to students who need extra help.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching: Teach reading and writing skills to students, including phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar.
2. Lesson Planning: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that meet the needs of diverse learners.
3. Assessment: Assess student progress in reading and writing, using a variety of assessment tools and strategies.
4. Individualized Support: Provide individualized support to students who need extra help, including small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring.
5. Communication: Communicate with parents and guardians about student progress, providing regular updates and suggestions for supporting literacy development at home.
Requirements:
1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field, with a focus on literacy or reading education.
2. Certification: Teaching certification or licensure in the state where the school is located.
3. Experience: 2+ years of experience teaching reading and writing to students, preferably in an elementary or middle school setting.
4. Knowledge: Strong knowledge of literacy instructional strategies, including phonics, comprehension, and vocabulary development.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s Degree: Master’s degree in Education or related field, with a focus on literacy or reading education.
2. Special Education Experience: Experience teaching students with special needs, including those with dyslexia or other reading disabilities.
3. Bilingual or Multilingual: Ability to speak multiple languages, with the ability to support English language learners.
