Job Summary:
The Education Counselor provides academic advising and guidance to students, helping them to achieve their educational and career goals. The Education Counselor works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to provide support and resources that promote student success.
Key Responsibilities:
– Provide academic advising and guidance to students, including helping them to choose courses, plan their academic program, and achieve their educational and career goals.
– Assist students in exploring their academic and career interests, and help them to develop a plan to achieve their goals.
– Provide support and resources to students who are experiencing academic difficulty, including tutoring, academic support services, and referrals to other resources on campus.
– Collaborate with faculty and staff to provide support and resources that promote student success.
– Develop and implement programs and services that promote academic success, retention, and graduation.
– Analyze data and assess student outcomes to inform advising practices and program development.
Requirements:
– Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field.
– At least 2-3 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, or a related field.
– Strong knowledge of academic advising principles, practices, and technologies.
– Excellent communication, interpersonal, and counseling skills.
– Ability to work with diverse populations, including students, faculty, and staff.
– Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience working with students in a higher education setting.
– Knowledge of student development theory, academic advising models, and counseling techniques.
– Experience with advising software and technologies, such as Degree Works or EAB.
– Certification as a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) or National Certified Counselor (NCC).
