Lecturer in Civil Engineering
Job Summary:
The Lecturer in Civil Engineering will be responsible for teaching, research, and service in the Department of Civil Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop and teach new courses, and participate in the department’s research and service activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering, including lectures, labs, and design studios.
2. Research: Develop and maintain an active research program in civil engineering, including securing funding, publishing research papers, and presenting research at conferences.
3. Service: Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including committee work, student advising, and community outreach.
4. Curriculum Development: Develop and teach new courses in civil engineering, including online and distance education courses.
5. Student Advising: Advise undergraduate and graduate students in civil engineering, including academic advising, research advising, and career advising.
6. Assessment and Accreditation: Participate in the assessment and accreditation of civil engineering programs, including ABET accreditation.
Requirements:
1. Education: Earned doctorate in civil engineering or a related field.
2. Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in teaching, research, and service in civil engineering.
3. Professional Registration: Professional registration as a civil engineer (PE) or the ability to obtain registration within 2-3 years.
4. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
5. Leadership Skills: Strong leadership skills, including the ability to lead teams and collaborate with colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Research Experience: Experience in conducting research in civil engineering, including securing funding and publishing research papers.
2. Teaching Experience: Experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in civil engineering, including online and distance education courses.
3. Industry Experience: Experience in the civil engineering industry, including design, construction, and project management.
4. Certifications: Certifications in civil engineering, such as the Certified Civil Engineer (CCE) designation.
