Job Overview:
An English Teacher is responsible for teaching students the skills necessary to read, write, and understand the English language. This includes developing students’ literacy skills, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and critical thinking. The role requires creating engaging lesson plans, delivering effective instruction, assessing student progress, and fostering an inclusive and positive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Lesson Planning:
- Curriculum Design and Delivery:
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with the curriculum, standards, and educational goals.
- Teach English language skills including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, literature, and communication.
- Adapt lessons and activities to cater to different learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students can succeed.
- Use various teaching methods, including lectures, group activities, multimedia resources, and interactive tools.
- Literacy Development:
- Promote critical thinking and the analysis of texts by encouraging discussions, debates, and written responses.
- Provide reading assignments and guide students through literature studies, helping them develop an appreciation for diverse texts, including novels, short stories, poetry, and plays.
- Teach writing skills such as essays, research papers, creative writing, and reports, emphasizing clarity, organization, and style.
- Grammar and Language Skills:
- Teach fundamental grammar and language conventions, ensuring students understand sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, and syntax.
- Provide practice exercises to reinforce grammar and vocabulary building.
Assessment and Evaluation:
- Student Assessment:
- Administer tests, quizzes, assignments, and projects to assess students’ understanding of the material.
- Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their language skills.
- Track and monitor student progress and provide individualized support for struggling students.
- Grading and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and grade assignments in a timely manner.
- Prepare reports on student progress, attendance, and achievements.
- Formative and Summative Assessments:
- Design a range of assessments, including both formative (ongoing) and summative (final) evaluations, to monitor student progress.
- Offer opportunities for students to retake tests or assignments to improve grades and understanding.
Classroom Management:
- Create a Positive Learning Environment:
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and engaging classroom environment that encourages students to actively participate and collaborate.
- Set clear expectations for behavior, promoting respect, cooperation, and discipline.
- Student Engagement:
- Encourage student participation in discussions, debates, presentations, and other classroom activities.
- Motivate students to set personal goals for academic growth and take ownership of their learning.
- Provide Support:
- Offer additional help or tutoring for students who need extra support to improve their English skills.

Professional Development and Collaboration:

- Collaboration with Colleagues:

Parent and Teacher Communication:

Required Qualifications:
- Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field is required.
- A teaching certification or licensure (if required by the region or school) is preferred.
- A Master’s degree in Education or a related field is a plus.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in teaching English, literature, or language arts is desirable.
- Experience working with students in various grade levels is an advantage.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of English grammar, writing, literature, and language conventions.
