Librarian
Job Summary:
The Librarian is responsible for managing and maintaining the library’s collections, providing research assistance and instruction to patrons, and developing and implementing library programs and services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collection Development: Develop and maintain the library’s collections, including selecting and acquiring new materials, weeding outdated materials, and maintaining collection databases.
2. Research Assistance: Provide research assistance and instruction to patrons, including answering research questions, teaching information literacy classes, and developing online research guides.
3. Library Programs and Services: Develop and implement library programs and services, including author readings, book clubs, and other community outreach programs.
4. Cataloging and Classification: Catalog and classify library materials, including books, journals, and other resources.
5. Library Maintenance: Maintain the library’s physical space, including shelving books, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for patrons.
6. Collaboration: Collaborate with other librarians, faculty, and staff to develop and implement library services and programs.
Qualifications:
1. Education: Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program.
2. Experience: Experience working in a library or information center, including experience with collection development, research assistance, and library programs and services.
3. Knowledge: Knowledge of library software and technology, including integrated library systems, online public access catalogs, and digital repositories.
4. Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse populations and provide effective research assistance and instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Second Master’s Degree: Second master’s degree in a subject area relevant to the library’s collections and services.
2. Experience with Emerging Technologies: Experience with emerging technologies, including digital scholarship, data curation, and library analytics.
3. Grant Writing Experience: Experience with grant writing and securing funding for library programs and services.
4. Professional Memberships: Membership in professional organizations, including the American Library Association (ALA) and state and regional library associations.
