LECTURER EDUCATION

Job Summary:

The Lecturer in Education is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences to students in the field of education. The role involves designing, developing, and delivering educational programs, conducting research, providing academic support to students, and contributing to the development of the department’s curriculum. The position may also involve administrative duties and involvement in departmental and university committees.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Teaching and Learning:

  • Deliver lectures, seminars, workshops, and tutorials in education-related subjects, including but not limited to pedagogy, child development, special education, educational leadership, and assessment strategies.
  • Develop and review course materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments.
  • Facilitate student-centered learning, encouraging active participation and critical thinking.
  • Provide academic advice and guidance to students, including mentoring and support for student research projects.
  • Utilize technology and digital tools to enhance the learning experience (e.g., online learning platforms, multimedia).
  • Conduct assessments, grade student work, and provide timely feedback to ensure continuous learning.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects.

2. Research and Scholarly Activities:

  • Conduct original research in the field of education, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in education theory and practice.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, and other scholarly outlets.
  • Apply for research grants and funding opportunities to support research activities.
  • Participate in academic conferences, workshops, and seminars to present research and engage with the academic community.
  • Foster an environment of research-led teaching, integrating recent research findings into the curriculum.

3. Curriculum Development:

  • Contribute to the design, development, and review of educational programs and curricula to ensure they are relevant, up-to-date, and meet academic and professional standards.
  • Ensure that programs align with the latest developments in educational theory, policy, and practice.
  • Develop innovative teaching and assessment strategies that support diverse learners and promote inclusion and equality.

4. Academic Administration:

  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and institutional projects.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental strategies, policies, and goals.
  • Participate in student recruitment activities, including open days and admissions interviews.
  • Contribute to the preparation of accreditation reports, quality assurance processes, and program reviews.

5. Professional Development:

  • Engage in continuous professional development to stay up-to-date with developments in the field of education and higher education teaching.
  • Participate in training and workshops related to teaching methods, educational technologies, and research practices.
  • Contribute to the development of the academic community within the department and the institution.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Education or a related field.
  • A strong record of teaching experience in higher education, ideally within the field of education.
  • A track record of research, including published work in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment design.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to supporting students’ academic and personal development.
  • Proficiency in using educational technologies and online teaching platforms.

Desirable:

  • A Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Education or a related field.
  • Experience in supervising postgraduate research projects.
  • Experience with international or multicultural student populations.
  • Knowledge of current educational policies and trends.
  • Professional qualifications or memberships in educational associations.
