Computer Lab Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Computer Lab Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance to students, faculty, and staff in the computer lab, as well as maintaining the lab’s equipment and software.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Support

1. Provide technical support and assistance to students, faculty, and staff in the computer lab.
2. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems.
3. Assist with printer, scanner, and other equipment maintenance.
4. Provide guidance on software applications, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.

Lab Maintenance

1. Maintain the computer lab’s equipment and software, including computers, printers, scanners, and other peripherals.
2. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as updating software and running virus scans.
3. Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and report any problems to the lab manager.
4. Assist with lab upgrades and renovations.

User Support

1. Assist students, faculty, and staff with using lab equipment and software.
2. Provide guidance on lab policies and procedures.
3. Help users troubleshoot problems and resolve issues.
4. Maintain a positive and helpful attitude when interacting with users.

Collaboration and Communication

1. Collaborate with lab staff and other departments to ensure seamless operation of the lab.
2. Communicate effectively with users, lab staff, and other departments.
3. Participate in meetings and training sessions as required.
4. Maintain accurate records of lab usage, maintenance, and repairs.

Requirements:

Qualifications

1. Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
2. Experience working in a computer lab or help desk environment.
3. Strong technical skills, including knowledge of hardware, software, and networking.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience

1. At least 1 year of experience working in a computer lab or help desk environment.
2. Experience with computer hardware, software, and networking.
3. Experience providing technical support and assistance to users.
4. Experience maintaining accurate records and reports.

Skills

1. Strong technical skills, including knowledge of hardware, software, and networking.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
4. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
2. Experience with computer programming languages, such as Python or Java.
3. Experience with database management systems, such as MySQL or Oracle.
4. Experience with cloud computing platforms, such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure.

Experience

1. Experience working in a higher education environment.
2. Experience with lab management software, such as LabStats or Print Manager.
3. Experience with IT service management software, such as ServiceNow or JIRA.
4. Experience with project management methodologies, such as Agile or Waterfall.

Skills

1. Experience with virtualization software, such as VMware or VirtualBox.
2. Experience with cybersecurity principles and best practices.
3. Experience with data analytics and visualization tools, such as Tableau or Power BI.
4. Experience with ITIL or other IT service management frameworks.
