Research Coordinator

Job Summary:
The Research Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day activities of research projects within an academic, clinical, or organizational setting. This role ensures the efficient and smooth execution of research activities, including data collection, analysis, documentation, and reporting. The Research Coordinator also provides support to researchers, manages timelines and budgets, and coordinates communication between team members, stakeholders, and research participants. This position is key to ensuring that the research process adheres to regulatory standards, timelines, and quality benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research Planning and Coordination:
    • Assist in the development of research proposals, study protocols, and project timelines.
    • Coordinate the planning, initiation, and execution of research projects from start to finish, ensuring that research activities are conducted according to schedule and within budget.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders involved in the research project, including faculty, researchers, and external partners.
    • Manage logistics and resources required for the research project, including scheduling meetings, procuring materials, and arranging travel.
  2. Data Management and Analysis:
    • Oversee the collection, entry, and storage of research data, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and privacy standards (e.g., HIPAA).
    • Monitor the progress of data collection, ensuring that data is accurate, complete, and timely.
    • Analyze research data and assist with data interpretation under the guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI).
    • Ensure proper documentation of data analysis procedures, methodologies, and results for publication and reporting.
  3. Compliance and Ethics:
    • Ensure that all research activities comply with relevant institutional, local, and federal regulations, including research ethics guidelines and safety protocols.
    • Maintain documentation required for Institutional Review Board (IRB) or ethics committee submissions and approvals.
    • Help manage informed consent processes for research participants, ensuring that participants are fully informed of their rights and the nature of the research.
  4. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare and maintain research reports, project documentation, and publications in accordance with established formats and guidelines.
    • Assist in writing research papers, proposals, and grant applications, contributing to literature reviews, methodology sections, and other sections as needed.
    • Ensure proper filing and organization of research documents, both digitally and physically, for future reference and audits.
    • Assist with the preparation of presentations, posters, and other materials for conferences or meetings.
  5. Team Collaboration and Support:
    • Coordinate communication among research teams, ensuring smooth collaboration between project members, department staff, and other stakeholders.
    • Schedule and facilitate regular research team meetings, ensuring that all members are informed of the latest project developments, milestones, and deadlines.
    • Provide administrative support to research staff, including organizing workshops, seminars, or other training events related to the research project.
    • Assist in recruiting and training research assistants or interns as needed.
  6. Budget and Resource Management:
    • Assist in managing the research project budget, tracking expenses, and ensuring that funds are allocated appropriately.
    • Monitor the allocation of resources and supplies to ensure that research activities are adequately supported.
    • Prepare budget reports and ensure that the financial aspects of the research are compliant with institutional policies.
  7. Participant Recruitment and Engagement:
    • Coordinate the recruitment of research participants, ensuring that the recruitment process adheres to ethical guidelines.
    • Maintain communication with research participants, addressing any concerns or inquiries they may have about the project.
    • Ensure that participants’ rights are respected throughout the study, providing updates and ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
  8. Professional Development:
    • Stay updated with the latest research methodologies, tools, and techniques relevant to the research project.
    • Attend conferences, workshops, or professional development sessions to improve skills and knowledge related to research coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Science, Social Science, Healthcare, Public Health, or a related discipline).
    • A background in research methodologies and data analysis is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience in a research coordination or research assistant role.
    • Experience in managing research projects, handling data, and working in academic or clinical research settings is desirable.
    • Familiarity with research ethics, regulatory requirements, and IRB processes is an advantage.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Proficiency in research software and tools (e.g., SPSS, Excel, R, Qualtrics, etc.).
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards in research data and documentation.
    • Knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and resource management is a plus.
