Teacher (English)

Job Summary:
The English Teacher is responsible for teaching English language and literature to students at various grade levels, fostering an environment where students can develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The role includes designing and delivering engaging lessons, assessing student progress, and encouraging a love of reading and language. The English Teacher will work closely with students to help them achieve their academic goals while promoting literacy and communication skills that will serve them beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Delivery:
    • Develop and deliver high-quality English lessons in alignment with the curriculum and grade-level objectives.
    • Teach key areas of English, including grammar, vocabulary, literature, reading comprehension, and writing.
    • Promote critical thinking and creativity by encouraging students to analyze and discuss literary works, texts, and themes.
    • Adapt lessons and teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, ensuring that all students are able to participate and succeed.
  2. Assessment & Evaluation:
    • Plan and administer various assessments such as quizzes, exams, essays, projects, and presentations to evaluate students’ language and literary skills.
    • Provide timely, constructive feedback on student assignments and assessments, highlighting areas for improvement.
    • Track student progress and performance, maintaining accurate records of grades and assignments.
    • Modify teaching strategies based on assessment results to provide additional support to students who may need it.
  3. Classroom Management:
    • Establish and maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment that promotes active learning and student engagement.
    • Develop and implement clear rules and expectations for student behavior and classroom participation.
    • Address disruptive behavior and use effective management strategies to ensure a conducive learning environment.
  4. Student Support:
    • Provide individualized support to students struggling with language skills or literary concepts.
    • Offer guidance and mentorship to students, helping them set academic goals and develop strong study habits.
    • Encourage student participation in class discussions, reading activities, and extracurricular activities related to English.
  5. Literature and Writing Development:
    • Encourage students to explore various genres of literature, including novels, poetry, plays, and short stories.
    • Help students improve their writing skills, focusing on grammar, composition, creativity, and organization.
    • Promote a love for reading by recommending books and organizing reading programs or book clubs.
  6. Collaborative Work:
    • Work closely with other teachers and staff members to support interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the English department to develop and enhance the curriculum, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of students.
    • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the school’s overall academic goals.
  7. Professional Development:
    • Stay updated with the latest teaching methodologies, educational tools, and trends in English language and literature instruction.
    • Attend faculty meetings, training workshops, and professional development sessions to continuously improve teaching practices.
  8. Parental Involvement:
    • Communicate regularly with parents about their child’s academic progress, strengths, and areas for improvement.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss student performance and address any concerns.
  9. Administrative Duties:
    • Prepare and submit reports on student progress, lesson plans, and classroom activities in a timely manner.
    • Maintain student records and documentation related to assessments, attendance, and academic performance.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • A Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
    • Teaching certification or licensure specific to the region (if required).
  • Experience:
    • Previous teaching experience in English at the secondary or primary school level is preferred.
    • Experience in teaching both language skills (reading, writing, speaking) and literature is desirable.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong knowledge of English grammar, literature, and composition.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to engage and motivate students to learn and develop their language skills.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to use technology and educational tools effectively to enhance teaching (e.g., online resources, multimedia presentations).
    • Patience, empathy, and the ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds and learning needs.

Working Conditions:
