Junior Teacher

Job Summary:
The Junior Teacher is responsible for delivering lessons and supporting students in their learning across a variety of subjects. This role typically involves teaching younger students at the primary or early secondary level. Junior Teachers play a key role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students, creating a positive classroom environment, and ensuring that all students are encouraged to participate and achieve their full potential. The Junior Teacher works closely with senior staff members to help implement the curriculum and contribute to school activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching and Learning:
    • Plan and deliver engaging lessons to students in accordance with the school’s curriculum.
    • Teach a range of subjects or focus on specific areas such as English, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies, depending on the assignment.
    • Create lesson plans that are age-appropriate, interactive, and conducive to active learning.
    • Adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate students’ learning needs and abilities.
    • Promote critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills among students.
    • Encourage students to actively participate in class discussions, group work, and individual assignments.
  2. Classroom Management:
    • Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior, fostering a respectful and disciplined classroom environment.
    • Manage classroom dynamics to ensure that students are focused, engaged, and following the lesson.
    • Address student behavior issues in a constructive and fair manner.
    • Use a variety of teaching strategies and resources to keep students engaged and motivated.
    • Supervise students during non-classroom activities such as recess, lunch, and field trips.
  3. Assessment and Feedback:
    • Monitor student progress and performance through regular assessments, quizzes, projects, and assignments.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback on students’ work, helping them identify areas for improvement.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
    • Provide feedback to parents and guardians regarding their child’s progress through meetings, reports, or informal communication.
  4. Student Support:
    • Provide individualized support to students who may need additional help in specific subjects or areas.
    • Identify students who are struggling academically or emotionally and provide guidance or refer them to relevant support services.
    • Foster a nurturing environment where students feel safe, respected, and encouraged to express themselves.
    • Motivate students to set academic and personal goals and provide encouragement to achieve them.
  5. Collaborative Work:
    • Work closely with other teachers, staff members, and the school community to implement school-wide initiatives.
    • Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and team collaborations to share ideas and improve teaching practices.
    • Collaborate with senior teachers and administrators in developing the curriculum and school programs.
    • Assist in organizing and running extracurricular activities such as sports, clubs, and school events.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and keep up with best practices in education.
    • Continuously evaluate and improve teaching strategies based on feedback, student performance, and peer reviews.
    • Stay updated on the latest trends in educational technology and incorporate them into lessons where applicable.
  7. Administrative Tasks:
    • Complete necessary paperwork, including lesson plans, attendance sheets, and reports, in a timely and organized manner.
    • Prepare teaching materials, resources, and classroom displays that support the learning process.
    • Contribute to school events, parent meetings, and other community-building activities.
  8. Parental Involvement:
    • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about their child’s progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
    • Participate in parent-teacher meetings and help facilitate open communication between parents and the school.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • A Bachelor’s degree in Education or in a related field.
    • Teaching certification or licensure in the relevant region (if required).
  • Experience:
    • Previous teaching or assistant teaching experience in a classroom setting is preferred but not required.
    • Experience working with children or in a school environment is an advantage.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Patience, empathy, and a passion for teaching young learners.
    • Organizational skills to manage lesson planning, student records, and classroom resources.
    • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs and encourage participation from all students.
    • Creativity in lesson planning and the ability to make learning fun and engaging.
    • Basic proficiency in educational technologies, such as classroom management software, presentation tools, and online learning platforms.

Working Conditions:
