Senior Teacher
Job Summary:
The Senior Teacher plays a key leadership role within the educational setting by supporting the school’s teaching and learning objectives while demonstrating exceptional skills and experience in teaching. They are responsible for delivering lessons to students, mentoring and guiding junior teachers, and contributing to curriculum development. Senior Teachers play a significant role in fostering an environment of academic excellence, student engagement, and professional growth within the school community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Classroom Management:
- Deliver high-quality, engaging lessons in the assigned subject area(s) to students across different grade levels.
- Use a range of teaching methods and resources to meet the learning needs and styles of all students.
- Maintain a positive classroom environment conducive to learning, promoting discipline, respect, and responsibility.
- Set clear learning objectives, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback to students.
- Assess student work, grade assignments, and provide feedback on academic performance.
- Create and maintain up-to-date lesson plans that align with the curriculum and educational goals.
- Mentorship and Leadership:
- Mentor and guide junior teachers, offering support and advice on classroom management, lesson planning, and teaching techniques.
- Lead by example in the classroom, demonstrating best teaching practices and promoting a positive learning culture.
- Assist in the professional development of colleagues by sharing expertise and providing coaching on teaching strategies.
- Take on leadership roles within the department or school, including coordinating projects, events, or initiatives.
- Provide feedback and guidance during teacher evaluations to support their growth and improvement.
- Curriculum Development and Innovation:
- Contribute to the development and refinement of the curriculum by offering input based on student needs, educational trends, and subject knowledge.
- Incorporate new teaching tools, technology, and educational resources into lesson planning and delivery.
- Stay current with educational trends and research, applying innovative practices to enhance teaching and learning.
- Student Support and Welfare:
- Provide academic and personal support to students, helping them navigate academic challenges and reach their potential.
- Identify students who may require additional support, and collaborate with support staff or special needs teams to develop intervention plans.
- Foster a safe and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, supported, and motivated to succeed.
- Offer guidance on study habits, time management, and academic progression to students.
- Assessment and Reporting:
- Design and implement fair and consistent methods of student assessment, including quizzes, tests, projects, and presentations.
- Track and monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and behavior.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on student progress to the school leadership team and parents.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss student development, achievements, and areas for improvement.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with colleagues, including teachers, department heads, and administrators, to improve educational outcomes.
- Engage in regular meetings with staff members to discuss teaching practices, share ideas, and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
- Build positive relationships with students, parents, and the wider school community, ensuring clear and effective communication.
- Participate in school events, extra-curricular activities, and other community-building activities as required.
- Professional Development:
- Pursue opportunities for continuous professional development through workshops, conferences, and courses.
- Keep up-to-date with the latest research, trends, and teaching methodologies in the education sector.
- Reflect on personal teaching practices and work towards ongoing improvement and growth.
- Administrative Duties:
- Contribute to the administration of school activities such as organizing school events, trips, and assemblies.
- Maintain and organize teaching materials, resources, and classroom documents.
- Ensure that all necessary documentation related to student progress, attendance, and assessments is maintained in an organized and timely manner.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Relevant teaching certification or licensure depending on regional requirements.
- Experience:

- Prior experience in mentoring or leading other educators is highly preferred.
