Primary Computer Teacher

Job Overview: The Primary Computer Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to primary school students in the areas of computer literacy and technology. This includes teaching fundamental skills such as typing, basic computer operations, and introduction to coding and digital tools. The role involves creating engaging and interactive lessons that foster curiosity, creativity, and a love for technology, while ensuring that students understand the impact and safe usage of computers in their daily lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development and Lesson Planning:
    Develop and implement an engaging, age-appropriate curriculum for primary school students, aligned with educational standards and school requirements. Create lesson plans that incorporate various teaching methods and tools to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Teaching and Instruction:
    Deliver structured and interactive lessons that introduce students to the basics of computers, digital tools, word processing software, and other applications such as spreadsheets, presentations, and online research. Encourage students to explore new technology, solve problems, and develop digital literacy skills.
  • Classroom Management:
    Maintain a positive, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment in the computer lab or classroom. Establish and reinforce clear classroom rules and expectations for behavior, safety, and respect, especially when using computers and other electronic devices.
  • Student Engagement and Assessment:
    Use innovative teaching methods such as project-based learning, group activities, and interactive exercises to keep students engaged. Assess and monitor the progress of students through regular assignments, quizzes, projects, and informal observations. Provide feedback and support to help students reach their full potential.
  • Technology Integration:
    Stay up-to-date with the latest educational technology and digital tools that can enhance the learning experience. Incorporate relevant software, applications, and online platforms into lessons to support both learning and teaching goals.
  • Digital Citizenship and Safety:
    Educate students about responsible use of technology, including internet safety, ethics, and digital citizenship. Promote safe and respectful online behavior, teaching students how to protect personal information, avoid online risks, and use technology ethically.
  • Collaborative Work:
    Collaborate with other teachers to integrate technology into various subjects and projects. Share insights, resources, and best practices for using digital tools across the curriculum.
  • Professional Development:
    Continuously seek opportunities to develop professionally by attending workshops, training sessions, or pursuing certifications in educational technology. Share knowledge with colleagues and participate in school-wide initiatives to improve teaching methods and technology integration.
  • Parent Communication:
    Maintain effective communication with parents, providing updates on students’ progress, achievements, and areas for improvement. Address any concerns related to technology use or learning outcomes.
  • Administrative Duties:
    Manage classroom resources, including computers, software, and other technology equipment. Ensure that equipment is functioning properly and report any issues or maintenance needs. Keep accurate records of student performance and attendance as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Education Technology, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • Prior teaching experience, preferably at the primary school level, is desirable.
    • Familiarity with educational software, classroom technology, and digital learning tools.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong knowledge of computer hardware and software.
    • Proficiency in using a variety of educational technology tools and digital platforms.
