Academic Manager

Position Summary:
The Academic Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing and improving the academic operations and learning experiences within an educational institution. This individual is responsible for managing academic programs, ensuring the quality of instruction, supporting faculty development, and implementing strategies that foster student success. The Academic Manager works closely with faculty, students, and administration to maintain a high standard of academic excellence, while also managing resources, schedules, and curricula.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Management:
    • Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of academic programs, including curriculum design, course scheduling, and faculty assignments.
    • Ensure all academic programs align with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate academic policies and procedures that support the academic mission of the institution.
    • Monitor the academic calendar to ensure that courses, exams, and assessments are aligned with timelines and institutional requirements.
  2. Curriculum and Instructional Development:
    • Collaborate with faculty and department heads to develop, update, and enhance curricula based on evolving educational trends, student needs, and institutional goals.
    • Assist in designing new programs or revising existing ones to ensure academic rigor, relevance, and alignment with industry standards.
    • Provide guidance on the integration of innovative teaching methods and educational technologies into the curriculum.
  3. Faculty Support and Development:
    • Provide leadership and support to faculty by offering professional development opportunities, resources, and guidance on instructional best practices.
    • Conduct regular faculty evaluations, provide feedback, and support faculty in areas such as course delivery, student engagement, and assessment.
    • Promote a culture of collaboration and professional growth among faculty, fostering an environment of open communication and mutual support.
  4. Student Success and Retention:
    • Monitor student progress and performance, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
    • Develop and implement academic support initiatives, including tutoring, mentoring, and intervention strategies, to enhance student success and retention.
    • Work closely with academic advisors to support students in their academic journeys, including helping with course selection, academic planning, and addressing any academic challenges.
  5. Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Collect, analyze, and report data on academic performance, course effectiveness, and student outcomes.
    • Use data to inform decisions on curriculum design, faculty development, and academic program improvements.
    • Regularly review student surveys, evaluations, and feedback to assess satisfaction and areas for growth within academic programs.
  6. Collaboration and Leadership:
    • Collaborate with senior leadership, academic departments, and other stakeholders to develop strategies that support the institution’s academic vision and goals.
    • Participate in academic committees, meetings, and strategic planning processes to ensure alignment between academic and institutional priorities.
    • Lead or contribute to initiatives focused on improving academic quality, student engagement, and institutional reputation.
  7. Accreditation and Compliance:
    • Ensure that academic programs comply with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
    • Lead efforts to prepare for accreditation reviews and site visits, ensuring documentation is complete and up-to-date.
    • Stay informed about relevant state, federal, and industry regulations, making recommendations to maintain compliance.
  8. Budget and Resource Management:
    • Assist with the development and management of the academic budget, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently to support academic programs and faculty needs.
    • Ensure that faculty and staff have the tools and materials necessary for effective course delivery and student engagement.
  9. Technology Integration:
    • Oversee the integration of educational technologies, such as learning management systems (LMS), virtual learning environments, and digital assessment tools, into academic programs.
    • Ensure that faculty are trained on technology tools and platforms to enhance teaching and learning.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • A Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field is required; a Doctorate is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of experience in academic management, teaching, or educational leadership.
    • Demonstrated experience in program development, faculty management, and student success initiatives.
    • Familiarity with accreditation processes and compliance standards is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to engage effectively with faculty, students, and administration.
    • Ability to analyze and interpret academic data to inform decision-making.
    • Proficiency in educational technology and learning management systems (LMS).
    • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
