Lecturer in Civil Engineering

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lecturer in Civil Engineering to join our academic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting research, and contributing to the growth and development of the Civil Engineering department.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching:

– Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Civil Engineering, including lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions.
– Develop and deliver course materials, including syllabi, lecture notes, and assignments.
– Evaluate student performance, including grading assignments and exams.
– Provide feedback to students on their performance and progress.

Research:

– Conduct research in Civil Engineering, including publishing papers in top-tier journals and conferences.
– Develop and implement research projects, including designing methodologies, collecting and analyzing data, and interpreting results.
– Collaborate with other researchers and industry partners to advance the field of Civil Engineering.

Service:

– Contribute to the growth and development of the Civil Engineering department, including serving on committees, advising students, and participating in departmental events.
– Participate in university-wide initiatives and committees.
– Provide service to the profession, including reviewing papers, serving on editorial boards, and participating in professional organizations.

Curriculum Development:

– Contribute to the development and revision of undergraduate and postgraduate curricula in Civil Engineering.
– Develop and implement new courses and programs.
– Evaluate the effectiveness of courses and programs.
– Make recommendations for curriculum changes and improvements.

Student Supervision:

– Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, including advising on research projects and providing guidance on academic and professional development.
– Evaluate student performance, including grading assignments and exams.
– Provide feedback to students on their performance and progress.
– Mentor students in their academic and professional careers.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

– Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related field.
– Professional certification in Civil Engineering, such as PE or CEng.
– Minimum 2-3 years of experience in teaching and research.

Skills:

– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
– Strong teaching and research skills.
– Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
– Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

Knowledge:

– Strong knowledge of Civil Engineering principles, practices, and techniques.
– Knowledge of educational technology and its applications in the classroom.
– Understanding of curriculum development and implementation.

Desired Qualifications:

Advanced Degree:

– Postdoctoral experience.
– Experience teaching and conducting research in a university setting.

Experience:

– Experience working in industry or government.
– Experience with grant writing and research funding.
– Experience with academic advising and student mentoring.
