Teacher – Mathematics
Position Overview:
A Mathematics Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in mathematical concepts and skills to students at various levels. This role involves teaching core areas of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and other mathematical disciplines, with an emphasis on developing problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and analytical skills. The Mathematics Teacher fosters a positive and engaging classroom environment where students feel confident in their ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts.
The teacher’s role includes designing effective lessons, assessing student performance, offering individualized support, and helping students develop a strong foundation in mathematics that prepares them for future academic challenges and real-world applications. Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Delivery:
- Develop and deliver engaging, interactive lessons that cover a variety of mathematical concepts, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics.
- Use a variety of instructional methods, including direct teaching, cooperative learning, and technology, to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Encourage problem-solving, critical thinking, and independent learning, helping students understand how mathematical concepts apply to real-life situations.
- Lesson Planning and Curriculum Design:
- Create detailed lesson plans that align with the curriculum and meet academic standards for the grade level being taught.
- Design learning activities that challenge students at various levels of ability and encourage deep understanding of mathematical principles.
- Integrate technology and digital tools to enhance learning, such as interactive math software, graphing calculators, or online resources.
- Student Assessment and Feedback:
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments (tests, quizzes, assignments, projects) to evaluate students’ understanding and progress.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback on assessments to guide student improvement and mastery of content.
- Regularly monitor student performance and adjust teaching strategies to meet the needs of individual students or the class as a whole.
- Classroom Management:
- Create a positive, organized, and respectful classroom environment that fosters student engagement, collaboration, and academic growth.
- Establish clear behavioral and academic expectations and maintain consistency in enforcing them.
- Address any classroom disruptions or challenges in a fair, respectful, and proactive manner.
- Differentiated Instruction and Student Support:
- Provide differentiated instruction to accommodate a range of learning styles, abilities, and needs, including for students with learning difficulties or advanced learners.
- Offer additional support, such as one-on-one tutoring, group study sessions, or differentiated assignments, to ensure all students can succeed.
- Use formative data and student feedback to adjust instructional methods, providing personalized learning opportunities as necessary.
- Professional Development and Collaboration:
- Participate in professional development workshops and conferences to stay current with trends in mathematics education and teaching strategies.
- Collaborate with other teachers and school leadership to share strategies, resources, and best practices for improving mathematics instruction and student learning.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and attend faculty meetings to support the academic goals and policies of the school.
- Parental Engagement:
- Maintain regular communication with parents or guardians about student progress, including grades, behavior, and areas of strength or concern.
- Offer recommendations for how parents can support their child’s mathematical learning at home.
- Be available for parent-teacher conferences or additional meetings to discuss student performance or concerns.
- Extracurricular Activities (Optional):
- Lead or assist with math-related extracurricular activities, such as math clubs, math competitions, or tutoring programs, to foster a love of mathematics beyond the classroom.
- Encourage students to participate in school-wide events that promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- State certification in teaching mathematics (or relevant subject area) as required by local educational regulations.
- Proven experience in teaching mathematics at the appropriate grade level.
- Strong understanding of mathematical concepts and principles, with the ability to explain them clearly and effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students and build strong relationships with parents and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a classroom effectively.
- Familiarity with educational technology and tools used to enhance math instruction, such as graphing calculators, math software, or online learning platforms.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.

- Occasional lifting or carrying of classroom materials, such as teaching resources, student assignments, or project supplies.
Work Environment:
- This position is based in a school classroom, requiring regular interaction with students, staff, and school leadership.
