Student Counselor
Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Student Counselor to provide guidance and support to students in their academic, personal, and social development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Counseling and Guidance: Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students, addressing academic, personal, and social concerns.
2. Academic Advising: Assist students with academic planning, course selection, and degree progress.
3. Support Services: Connect students with campus resources, such as tutoring, academic support services, and mental health services.
4. Crisis Intervention: Respond to student crises, such as mental health emergencies, academic distress, or personal struggles.
5. Workshops and Programs: Develop and deliver workshops and programs on topics such as study skills, time management, and stress management.
6. Collaboration with Faculty and Staff: Work with faculty and staff to identify and support students who are struggling academically or personally.
7. Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and student interactions, and provide reports as required.
Requirements
1. Master’s Degree: Earned master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
2. Counseling Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in counseling, preferably in a higher education setting.
3. Certifications: Relevant certifications, such as LPC, LMFT, or NCC.
4. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse populations.
5. Cultural Competence: Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity, with the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications
1. Ph.D.: Earned Ph.D. in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
2. Experience with Diverse Populations: Experience working with diverse populations, such as students with disabilities, international students, or students from underrepresented groups.
3. Knowledge of Campus Resources: Familiarity with campus resources, such as academic support services, mental health services, and student organizations.
4. Experience with Crisis Intervention: Experience with crisis intervention, such as responding to mental health emergencies or academic distress.
