Academic Career Mentor
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and supportive Academic Career Mentor to guide students in their academic and professional journeys. The successful candidate will provide individualized mentoring, career coaching, and academic advising to students, helping them to achieve their academic and career goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mentoring and Coaching: Provide one-on-one mentoring and coaching to students, exploring their academic and career interests, strengths, and goals.
2. Academic Advising: Offer academic advising, helping students to select courses, plan their academic path, and ensure they meet degree requirements.
3. Career Development: Assist students in exploring career options, creating career plans, and developing job search strategies.
4. Networking and Connections: Facilitate connections between students and professionals in their desired field, providing opportunities for networking, internships, and job shadowing.
5. Workshops and Programs: Develop and deliver workshops, programs, and events focused on academic and career success, such as resume building, interviewing skills, and job search strategies.
6. Collaboration with Faculty and Staff: Work closely with faculty and staff to ensure students receive comprehensive support and guidance.
Requirements
1. Master’s Degree: Earned master’s degree in a relevant field, such as education, counseling, or a related field.
2. Mentoring Experience: Proven experience in mentoring, coaching, or advising students in an academic setting.
3. Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
4. Knowledge of Career Development Theories: Familiarity with career development theories, models, and best practices.
Desired Qualifications
1. Ph.D.: Earned Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as education, counseling, or a related field.
2. Certifications: Possession of relevant certifications, such as the National Board Certified Counselor (NBCC) or the Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF).
3. Experience with Diverse Populations: Experience working with diverse populations, including students from underrepresented groups, international students, and students with disabilities.
4. Knowledge of Labor Market Trends: Familiarity with labor market trends, industry needs, and emerging career opportunities.
