Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Lecturer in Fine Arts to join our academic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Fine Arts, including courses in studio practices, theory, history, and contemporary issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong academic background in Fine Arts, practical experience as an artist, and a commitment to fostering creativity and critical thinking in students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching:

    • Deliver undergraduate and graduate-level courses in Fine Arts, including but not limited to drawing, painting, sculpture, digital media, and art history.
    • Develop course materials such as syllabi, lectures, assignments, and exams, ensuring alignment with program goals and academic standards.
    • Provide studio-based instruction and critiques, fostering a hands-on learning environment.
    • Encourage students to experiment with various techniques and mediums while developing their artistic voice and personal style.
    • Assess and evaluate student work, providing timely, constructive feedback to enhance artistic and academic growth.
  2. Student Support and Mentoring:

    • Provide academic and artistic mentorship to students, offering guidance on their creative processes, project development, and professional aspirations.
    • Hold regular office hours and provide one-on-one support to students for individual projects, academic challenges, and career advice.
    • Guide students in preparing their portfolios for exhibitions, internships, or professional opportunities.
    • Support students in their participation in art exhibitions, contests, and public showcases.
  3. Research and Artistic Practice:

    • Maintain an active personal artistic practice, contributing to the development of your professional portfolio and expanding the field of Fine Arts.
    • Pursue academic research in Fine Arts, exploring contemporary issues, methodologies, and artistic innovation.
    • Engage with the broader artistic community by exhibiting work, attending conferences, and participating in professional events.
    • Contribute to the development of the department’s research agenda and collaborate on interdisciplinary projects.
  4. Curriculum Development and Program Leadership:

    • Participate in curriculum design and program development to ensure that the Fine Arts program remains relevant, innovative, and responsive to current trends and practices.
    • Contribute to the ongoing assessment and improvement of the Fine Arts program by providing feedback on course content, teaching strategies, and student outcomes.
    • Work with faculty and department leaders to align teaching and learning strategies with the department’s mission and goals.
    • Contribute to faculty meetings, committees, and other academic functions within the department and university.
  5. Community Engagement and Professional Development:

    • Actively engage in local, national, and international art communities by participating in exhibitions, artist talks, and collaborative projects.
    • Encourage student involvement in the arts through collaborations with local galleries, museums, and cultural institutions.
    • Continuously develop professional skills by attending workshops, art exhibitions, conferences, and other relevant professional development opportunities.
    • Foster partnerships with art organizations, institutions, and the public to support the department’s outreach and community-based art initiatives.

Key Requirements:

  1. Education and Qualifications:

    • A Master’s degree in Fine Arts (MFA) or equivalent professional experience in the field of Fine Arts.
    • Strong academic background in both studio practice and art history.
    • Evidence of active artistic practice and exhibition experience (preferred).
  2. Experience:

    • Experience teaching Fine Arts at the university level (teaching assistantship experience may be considered).
    • A demonstrated commitment to both art education and student development.
    • Experience in mentoring and guiding students in their artistic practices and professional growth.
    • A strong record of personal artistic achievement, including exhibitions, publications, or recognition in the field.
  3. Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong knowledge of Fine Arts techniques, including traditional and contemporary practices, digital media, and theory.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and foster a positive learning environment.
    • Ability to inspire and motivate students to engage deeply with their art and academic studies.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple courses and deadlines.
    • Competency with technology and tools relevant to Fine Arts education, including digital media software, online learning platforms, and studio equipment.
