Student Counsellor
Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Student Counsellor to provide support and guidance to students navigating academic, personal, and social challenges. The successful candidate will have a strong background in counselling, excellent communication skills, and a passion for promoting student well-being and success.
Key Responsibilities
1. Counselling Services: Provide individual and group counselling services to students, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationships.
2. Assessment and Referral: Conduct assessments and referrals to determine the best course of support for students, including connecting students with external resources and services.
3. Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and support to students in distress, including responding to emergencies and collaborating with campus safety and security teams.
4. Workshops and Outreach: Develop and deliver workshops and outreach programs to promote student well-being, resilience, and academic success.
5. Collaboration with Faculty and Staff: Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student success, including providing consultation and training on student mental health and well-being.
Requirements
1. Master’s Degree in Counselling: Earned master’s degree in counselling or a related field, such as psychology or social work.
2. Counselling Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience in counselling, preferably in a post-secondary education setting.
3. Certification: Possession of a certification in counselling, such as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) or a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC).
4. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Desired Qualifications
1. Ph.D. in Counselling: Earned Ph.D. in counselling or a related field.
2. Experience Working with Diverse Populations: Experience working with diverse populations, including students from diverse cultural backgrounds, students with disabilities, and LGBTQ2S+ students.
3. Knowledge of Campus Resources: Knowledge of campus resources and services, including student affairs, academic support services, and campus safety and security.
4. Experience with Crisis Intervention: Experience with crisis intervention and response, including training in crisis intervention models such as ASIST or CPR.
