Curriculum Development Lead Science

Position Overview:
The Curriculum Development Lead for Science is responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of science curriculum and educational materials. This position requires a deep understanding of science education, instructional design, and pedagogical strategies. The Curriculum Development Lead will work closely with educators, subject matter experts, and school administrators to ensure that science curricula meet both educational standards and the diverse needs of students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Design & Development:

    • Lead the creation, review, and revision of science curricula for various grade levels (elementary, middle, or high school).
    • Ensure that the curriculum aligns with national/state standards and educational best practices.
    • Incorporate innovative, evidence-based teaching strategies into the curriculum.
    • Develop clear and measurable learning objectives for science lessons.
  2. Team Leadership & Collaboration:

    • Lead and manage a team of curriculum developers, educators, and instructional designers.
    • Facilitate collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs), educators, and stakeholders to develop effective science content.
    • Provide professional development and training to teachers on curriculum implementation.
  3. Instructional Material Creation:

    • Oversee the development of science textbooks, lesson plans, lab activities, multimedia resources, and assessments.
    • Ensure the integration of technology and digital resources into the curriculum.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum materials and make necessary revisions.
  4. Assessment & Evaluation:

    • Develop assessments (formative and summative) to evaluate student learning and curriculum effectiveness.
    • Use data from student performance to refine and improve the curriculum.
    • Support the implementation of various assessment tools to measure student progress.
  5. Alignment with Standards:

    • Ensure all science curriculum content is aligned with local, state, and national educational standards.
    • Regularly review and update curriculum content to maintain compliance with evolving educational requirements.
  6. Curriculum Pilot Testing:

    • Oversee the pilot testing of new curricula in select schools or classrooms.
    • Collect and analyze feedback from teachers and students to improve curriculum effectiveness.
  7. Research & Continuous Improvement:

    • Stay informed about the latest developments in science education, pedagogical techniques, and curriculum design trends.
    • Conduct research and gather feedback from educational professionals to incorporate new ideas into the curriculum.
    • Lead the effort for continuous improvement of science curriculum materials.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field.
  • Strong background in science (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, or earth science).
  • Proven experience in curriculum development and instructional design, particularly for science education.
  • Experience in leading curriculum development teams or projects.
  • Knowledge of educational standards, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and tools.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in a K-12 science classroom.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms and blended learning environments.
  • Certification or training in curriculum development or instructional design.
  • Experience in conducting professional development workshops for educators.

Work Environment:

  • Typically works in an office or educational setting, but may require travel to schools or educational conferences for collaboration, training, or implementation of curriculum materials.
