Position Overview:
An Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and supporting the financial health of an organization. This role involves preparing financial statements, handling budgets, performing audits, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The Accountant plays a key role in financial decision-making by providing accurate, timely, and actionable financial information.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow statements.
    • Ensure all financial reports comply with accounting principles and regulations (GAAP or IFRS, depending on location).
    • Review financial transactions to ensure proper documentation and adherence to accounting standards.
    • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for senior management.
  2. Accounts Management:

    • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure timely payments and receipts.
    • Reconcile financial discrepancies by reviewing and investigating records, statements, and reports.
    • Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions, ensuring that they are properly recorded and classified.
  3. Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Assist in the preparation and management of the organization’s budget.
    • Monitor spending and analyze variances against the budget to help ensure financial targets are met.
    • Prepare and assist in financial forecasts to aid in strategic decision-making.
    • Provide insights into cost control measures and recommend budget adjustments if needed.
  4. Tax Compliance & Reporting:

    • Prepare and file tax returns, including sales tax, income tax, and VAT (if applicable).
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, and handle tax audits as needed.
    • Advise on tax planning and potential savings opportunities, helping the organization minimize tax liabilities.
  5. Financial Analysis & Decision Support:

    • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
    • Provide financial recommendations and insights to senior management for strategic planning and decision-making.
    • Conduct profitability analysis and financial modeling to support business expansion or cost-saving initiatives.
  6. Internal Controls & Compliance:

    • Maintain and monitor internal control systems to safeguard financial assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, local regulations, and accounting standards.
    • Assist with the internal audit process, addressing any audit findings or discrepancies.
    • Keep up-to-date with changes in financial regulations, standards, and best practices.
  7. Audit & Reconciliation:

    • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures to ensure that financial records are accurate.
    • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial records.
    • Coordinate with external auditors for year-end audits and assist with the preparation of required documentation.
  8. Account Reporting & Communication:

    • Prepare financial statements and reports for external stakeholders, including investors, regulatory bodies, and banks.
    • Present financial data to management in a clear and concise manner, providing insights into financial performance and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is preferred.
  • Proven experience as an accountant or in a similar financial role.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, tax laws, and financial regulations.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in industry-specific accounting (e.g., manufacturing, retail, nonprofit, or government).
  • Knowledge of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems.
  • Previous experience with audits, tax filings, or financial consulting.

The Accountant typically works in an office setting, though some positions may offer remote or hybrid work options. The role may require long hours during month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, as well as during tax season.
