Job Summary:

A Radiographer, also known as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist, is a healthcare professional responsible for producing high-quality medical images to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. They operate imaging equipment, position patients, and ensure patient safety and comfort.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care
1. Prepare patients for imaging procedures, explaining the process and positioning them correctly.
2. Ensure patient safety and comfort during the imaging process.
3. Provide emotional support and reassurance to anxious or frightened patients.

Imaging Procedures
1. Operate imaging equipment, such as X-ray, CT, MRI, and ultrasound machines.
2. Position patients correctly to obtain the best possible images.
3. Use radiation safety measures to minimize exposure to patients and staff.

Image Quality and Safety
1. Ensure image quality meets diagnostic standards.
2. Monitor and maintain imaging equipment to ensure proper function and safety.
3. Implement radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure.

Communication and Documentation
1. Communicate effectively with patients, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
2. Document patient information, imaging procedures, and results accurately.
3. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

Requirements:

1. Associate’s Degree: An associate’s degree in radiologic technology or a related field.
2. Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
3. Licensure: Licensure to practice as a radiographer in the state where employed.
4. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree in radiologic technology or a related field.
2. Specialized Certification: Specialized certification in a modality, such as CT, MRI, or mammography.
3. Experience: Experience in a hospital or imaging center setting.
