 Data Centre Electrician

Job Summary:

The Data Centre Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and infrastructure within mission-critical data center environments. This role ensures uninterrupted power delivery to critical IT systems, adhering to strict safety and compliance standards, and supporting uptime objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment, including switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, generators, and transfer switches.

  • Install and commission new electrical infrastructure in accordance with engineering specifications and local regulations.

  • Conduct inspections, testing, and diagnostics of electrical circuits to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.

  • Monitor and respond to electrical alarms and system alerts using building management systems (BMS) and electrical monitoring systems (EMS).

  • Participate in electrical risk assessments and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) following incidents or failures.

  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and engineers during installation and maintenance activities.

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation, including schematics, maintenance records, and compliance reports.

  • Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and local electrical codes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certified/licensed electrician with valid qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds 2391, JIB Gold Card, or equivalent).

  • Proven experience in commercial or industrial electrical systems; prior experience in data centre or critical environment is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of UPS systems, emergency generators, power distribution, grounding, and load balancing.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.

  • Familiarity with national electrical codes and standards (e.g., BS 7671, NEC, IEC).

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

  • Willingness to work in rotating shifts and respond to after-hours emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Data Centre certifications (e.g., Uptime Institute, DCD, or BICSI credentials).

  • Experience with high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) systems.

  • Familiarity with SCADA, BMS, or energy management systems
