Librarian – Pharmacy Department

Job Description:

A Librarian in the Pharmacy Department is responsible for managing and maintaining specialized academic and research resources related to pharmaceutical sciences. This role includes supporting faculty and students by providing access to relevant literature, databases, and reference materials, as well as assisting in research, cataloging, and library instruction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collection Management:

    • Acquire, organize, and maintain print and digital resources focused on pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, and related disciplines.

    • Evaluate and update the pharmacy collection to ensure relevance and accuracy.

  • Reference & Research Support:

    • Assist students and faculty in locating and using scientific journals, databases (e.g., PubMed, Scopus), and reference materials.

    • Provide guidance on literature searches, referencing styles (e.g., Vancouver, APA), and research documentation.

  • User Education:

    • Conduct orientation sessions and training workshops on using library resources, citation tools, and research strategies.

    • Support faculty and students with thesis preparation, research methodology, and publication processes.

  • Library Administration:

    • Maintain an organized and accessible library environment tailored to the needs of the pharmacy department.

    • Manage circulation services, inter-library loans, and digital resource access.

  • Technology Integration:

    • Use library management systems and digital tools to streamline access to resources.

    • Ensure digital and e-library platforms are current and functional.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (B.Lib / M.Lib).

  • Additional background or certification in pharmaceutical sciences or experience in a health sciences library is preferred.

  • Familiarity with medical and scientific databases.
