Academic Governance Specialist
Job Summary:
An Academic Governance Specialist provides expert advice and support to ensure effective academic governance and compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. They facilitate collaboration and communication among faculty, staff, and administrators to promote academic excellence and integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Governance
1. Provide guidance on academic governance policies, procedures, and best practices.
2. Support the development and implementation of academic policies and procedures.
3. Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
Committee Support
1. Provide administrative support to academic committees, including scheduling, minute-taking, and follow-up actions.
2. Ensure committee meetings are conducted in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.
3. Facilitate communication among committee members, faculty, and administrators.
Policy Development and Review
1. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop, review, and revise academic policies and procedures.
2. Ensure policies and procedures are aligned with institutional goals, objectives, and strategic plans.
3. Facilitate policy approval processes, including committee reviews and institutional approvals.
Compliance and Risk Management
1. Identify and mitigate risks related to academic governance and compliance.
2. Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations, including accreditation standards.
3. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to address compliance concerns and develop corrective actions.
Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education administration, public policy).
2. Academic Governance Experience: Experience in academic governance, policy development, or compliance.
3. Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
4. Analytical and Critical Thinking: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to analyze complex academic governance issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s Degree: A master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education administration, public policy).
2. Experience in Higher Education: Experience working in higher education, preferably in academic governance or compliance.
3. Certifications or Training: Certifications or training in academic governance, compliance, or risk management.
