Academic Librarian Leader

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Academic Librarian Leader to join our library team. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, guidance, and support to library staff, and will contribute to the development and implementation of library services, programs, and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and vision for the library, aligning with the institution’s mission and goals.
2. Staff Management: Supervise and manage library staff, including librarians, library assistants, and student workers.
3. Collection Development: Oversee the development and maintenance of library collections, including print, digital, and electronic resources.
4. Library Services: Develop and implement library services, programs, and initiatives that support student success, faculty research, and institutional goals.
5. Community Engagement: Foster partnerships and collaborations with faculty, students, and community stakeholders to promote library services and resources.
6. Assessment and Evaluation: Develop and implement assessment and evaluation methods to measure library effectiveness and inform decision-making.
7. Budget Management: Manage library budgets, including allocation of resources, financial planning, and budget reporting.

Requirements

1. Master’s Degree in Library Science: Earned master’s degree in library science (MLS) or library and information science (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program.
2. Leadership Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of leadership experience in an academic library setting, including supervisory experience.
3. Strong Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
4. Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to think strategically, with a focus on innovation, collaboration, and community engagement.

Desired Qualifications

1. Ph.D. in Library Science: Earned Ph.D. in library science or a related field.
2. Experience with Library Systems: Familiarity with integrated library systems (ILS), online public access catalogs (OPACs), and other library software.
3. Knowledge of Emerging Trends: Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in academic librarianship, including digital scholarship, data curation, and information literacy.
4. Certifications: Possession of relevant certifications, such as the Certified Public Library Administrator (CPLA) or the Library Support Staff Certification (LSSC).
