Assistant Professor Finance

Job Overview:

The Assistant Professor in Finance is responsible for teaching finance-related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting high-quality research in the field of finance, and contributing to the academic community through service and professional development. This position requires a passion for both teaching and research, as well as a commitment to academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Instruction:

    • Design, develop, and deliver lectures on finance topics, including but not limited to financial management, corporate finance, investments, financial markets, banking, and financial risk management.

    • Prepare and update course materials, assignments, quizzes, and exams.

    • Deliver courses in a dynamic and engaging manner using a mix of lectures, case studies, discussions, and practical applications.

    • Assess student performance through grading, feedback, and academic advising.

    • Provide support and mentoring to students, both inside and outside of class.

    • Supervise student research, projects, and theses.

  • Research and Scholarship:

    • Conduct original, high-quality research in the field of finance, with the aim of publishing in top-tier academic journals.

    • Engage in interdisciplinary research and collaborate with faculty and external researchers.

    • Stay current with industry trends, theoretical developments, and empirical methodologies in finance.

    • Present research at academic conferences and contribute to the development of the department’s research profile.

  • Curriculum Development:

    • Contribute to the design, review, and enhancement of the finance curriculum to ensure it is relevant and up-to-date with the latest academic and industry developments.

    • Ensure the integration of contemporary financial theories, tools, and technologies into teaching practices.

  • Service and Professional Development:

    • Participate in departmental, faculty, and university committees to contribute to the strategic development of the institution.

    • Engage in academic and professional development activities, such as attending conferences, workshops, and pursuing further qualifications.

    • Foster relationships with industry professionals, alumni, and stakeholders to enhance the department’s network and opportunities for students.

  • Student Engagement and Mentorship:

    • Provide academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students in the finance program.

    • Guide students in developing their career goals and provide mentorship in their professional development.

    • Supervise and support student internships and industry placements when applicable.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Ph.D. in Finance or a closely related field is required (candidates who are ABD—All But Dissertation—may also be considered).

  • Experience:

    • A strong record or potential for publishing in reputable finance journals.

    • Teaching experience at the university level is preferred but not mandatory.

    • Industry experience in finance (e.g., investment banking, corporate finance, asset management, or financial consulting) is a plus.

  • Skills:

    • Expertise in core finance topics such as financial modeling, portfolio management, corporate finance, financial econometrics, and risk management.

    • Strong analytical, quantitative, and research skills.

    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

    • Proficiency with finance-related software tools and statistical software (e.g., Excel, R, Stata, MATLAB, Python).

Work Environment:

The Assistant Professor in Finance will work in an academic environment, typically within a university or business school. The role involves teaching, research, and committee service. Professors are expected to engage with students both inside and outside the classroom, participate in academic events, and maintain an active research agenda.
