Assistant Professor of International Relations
Job Summary:
An Assistant Professor of International Relations is a tenure-track faculty position that involves teaching, research, and service in the field of international relations. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses, conduct research and publish scholarly articles, and participate in departmental and university service.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching
1. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in international relations, including introductory courses, upper-level seminars, and graduate-level courses.
2. Develop and teach specialized courses in area of expertise.
3. Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, including advising and directing research projects.
Research
1. Conduct original research in international relations, with a focus on publishing scholarly articles in top-tier journals.
2. Develop and maintain an active research agenda, including seeking funding and collaborating with colleagues.
3. Present research at academic conferences and workshops.
Service
1. Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work, advising, and mentoring.
2. Engage in outreach and community service, including public speaking and media appearances.
3. Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental and university strategic plans.
Requirements:
1. Ph.D. in International Relations: A Ph.D. in international relations or a related field (e.g., political science, global studies).
2. Teaching Experience: Experience teaching international relations courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
3. Research Experience: A strong research background, including publications and presentations.
4. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Specialization in a Regional or Topical Area: Specialization in a regional or topical area of international relations, such as international security, global governance, or area studies.
2. Language Skills: Proficiency in one or more languages relevant to the field of international relations.
3. Experience with Grant Writing: Experience with grant writing and research funding.
4. Interdisciplinary Experience: Experience working across disciplines, including collaboration with colleagues from other departments.
