Assistant Teacher (Islamiat)

Position Overview:

The Assistant Teacher (Islamiat) is responsible for supporting the teaching of Islamic Studies to students at various educational levels, ensuring that students develop an understanding of Islamic history, theology, values, and practices. This position involves assisting the lead teacher in planning lessons, organizing classroom activities, and providing support to students in their learning journey. The Assistant Teacher will also help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment while reinforcing the teaching of Islamic ethics and principles.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting with Instruction:
    • Assist the lead Islamiat teacher in preparing and delivering lessons on Islamic teachings, history, and religious practices.
    • Support in teaching fundamental Islamic concepts such as the five pillars of Islam, Qur’anic studies, the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and Islamic jurisprudence.
    • Help develop instructional materials such as worksheets, quizzes, and presentation slides to enhance lesson delivery.
    • Facilitate small group activities or one-on-one sessions with students who need extra support in understanding the subject.
  2. Classroom Support and Management:
    • Assist in maintaining a positive, respectful, and disciplined classroom environment that supports learning.
    • Monitor student behavior and provide guidance on Islamic manners, etiquette, and values.
    • Help supervise students during class activities and ensure students are on task.
    • Provide additional support to students during class exercises, discussions, and hands-on activities related to Islamiat.
  3. Assessment and Feedback:
    • Assist in preparing, grading, and evaluating student assignments, quizzes, and exams related to Islamiat.
    • Provide constructive feedback on students’ work, helping them improve their understanding of Islamic studies.
    • Track and report student progress, identifying any learning challenges and suggesting appropriate interventions to support their development.
  4. Curriculum and Lesson Planning:
    • Collaborate with the lead teacher in designing and implementing lesson plans that align with the school’s curriculum and educational goals.
    • Support in integrating Islamic values and teachings across other subjects or interdisciplinary lessons.
    • Help adapt and modify lesson content to accommodate diverse learning needs and abilities.
  5. Student Engagement and Support:
    • Foster a sense of curiosity and respect for Islamic studies among students by encouraging active participation and engagement in class.
    • Provide additional academic support to students who may require extra help, including after-school tutoring or one-on-one sessions.
    • Encourage students to develop a deep respect for Islamic culture, rituals, and ethics through discussions, activities, and real-life applications.
  6. Parent and Teacher Communication:
    • Assist the lead teacher in communicating with parents regarding student progress, behavior, and academic concerns.
    • Participate in parent-teacher meetings to discuss student performance and address any concerns related to Islamiat.
    • Ensure that students’ understanding of Islamic principles and practices is reinforced both at school and at home.
  7. Professional Development:
    • Attend faculty meetings, training sessions, and professional development workshops related to Islamic education.
    • Continuously improve knowledge of Islamic teachings and educational methods to better support students’ learning.
    • Keep up to date with new trends and resources in Islamic education to integrate into classroom practice.
  8. Extra-Curricular Involvement (Optional):
    • Assist in organizing extracurricular activities related to Islamic studies, such as Qur’anic recitation competitions, Islamic quizzes, or Islamic celebrations.
    • Support Islamic-themed community events, school prayers, and religious gatherings to enhance students’ cultural and religious experiences.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies, Religious Studies, Education, or a related field. A relevant Master’s degree or certification in Islamiat is an advantage.
  • Experience: Prior experience working with students in an educational setting is preferred but not required for entry-level positions.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of Islamic teachings, Qur’anic studies, Islamic history, and religious practices.
  • Classroom Management Skills: Ability to assist in managing classroom behavior and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain Islamic concepts in an accessible and engaging manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching Certification: A teaching certification or diploma in Islamic education is highly desirable.
  • Experience: Experience in teaching Islamiat or working in an Islamic educational environment is preferred.
  • Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with educational technologies and digital resources to enhance lesson delivery.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Awareness of diverse cultural perspectives within the student body and the ability to create an inclusive learning environment.

Work Environment:

The Assistant Teacher (Islamiat) works primarily in a classroom setting, supporting the lead teacher and interacting with students during lessons and activities. The role may also involve some additional responsibilities outside of regular class hours, such as after-school support or extracurricular events.
