Dean

Job Summary:

The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the college or faculty, responsible for providing strategic leadership and vision to the academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement activities. The Dean is accountable for promoting academic excellence, fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity, and advancing the college’s or faculty’s reputation and impact.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns with the university’s mission and goals, and promotes academic excellence, research, and community engagement.
2. Academic Programs: Oversee the development, delivery, and evaluation of academic programs, ensuring they meet the needs of students, employers, and the community.
3. Research and Innovation: Foster a culture of research and innovation, supporting faculty and students in their research endeavors and promoting knowledge transfer and commercialization.
4. Community Engagement: Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, industry partners, and government agencies to promote collaborative research, experiential learning, and community engagement.
5. Faculty and Staff Management: Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse and talented faculty and staff, promoting a culture of inclusivity, respect, and professionalism.
6. Budget and Resource Management: Manage the college’s or faculty’s budget and resources, ensuring effective allocation and utilization of funds to support academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement activities.
7. Communication and Representation: Serve as the chief representative of the college or faculty, communicating with stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.

Requirements:

1. Education: Earned doctorate in a relevant field.
2. Experience: At least 5-7 years of experience in academic administration, including experience as a department chair, associate dean, or dean.
3. Leadership Skills: Proven leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate faculty, staff, and students.
4. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
5. Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically, developing and implementing plans that align with the university’s mission and goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience in Accreditation: Experience with accreditation processes, including program accreditation and institutional accreditation.
2. Experience in Fundraising: Experience in fundraising and development, including securing grants and donations to support academic programs and research initiatives.
3. Experience in Community Engagement: Experience in community engagement, including developing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations, industry partners, and government agencies.
4. Certifications: Certifications in academic administration, such as the Certified Academic Administrator (CAA) designation.
