English Teacher

Job Overview: The English Teacher is responsible for teaching English language and literature to students at [elementary, middle, high school, etc.]. The teacher will develop and implement lesson plans, foster a positive and engaging learning environment, and support students’ language development and critical thinking skills. The ideal candidate will be passionate about literature, language, and helping students become effective communicators and critical thinkers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction:

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and age-appropriate lessons in English language, literature, writing, and grammar.
    • Foster an environment of active learning, critical thinking, and student engagement.
    • Teach the core elements of the English curriculum, including reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing techniques, vocabulary, and grammar.
    • Incorporate a variety of teaching strategies, technologies, and resources to enhance learning.
  • Assessment & Evaluation:

    • Assess student progress regularly through quizzes, tests, assignments, essays, projects, and oral presentations.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student work.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance.
    • Modify teaching methods and materials based on student needs and progress.
  • Classroom Management:

    • Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
    • Develop and enforce clear classroom rules and procedures.
    • Address any disciplinary issues promptly, fairly, and constructively.
    • Encourage student participation, collaboration, and independent thinking.
  • Support Student Development:

    • Support students in developing effective reading, writing, and communication skills.
    • Assist students with academic challenges, offering extra help or tutoring when needed.
    • Help students develop a love for literature and an appreciation for the English language.
  • Collaboration:

    • Work closely with fellow English department teachers to develop and refine the curriculum and teaching methods.
    • Collaborate with other subject area teachers to integrate literacy into different disciplines.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school events, and departmental meetings.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to discuss student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
  • Professional Development:

    • Stay up to date with the latest educational trends, strategies, and developments in English education.
    • Attend workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness.
    • Share best practices and collaborate with colleagues for continuous improvement.
  • Administrative Duties:

    • Maintain classroom materials, assignments, and student records.
    • Participate in school-wide initiatives, committees, or extracurricular activities, as required.
    • Assist with developing and evaluating curricula for English courses at the appropriate grade levels.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (required).
  • State certification or licensure as an English teacher (required).
  • Prior teaching experience in English (preferred but not required).
  • Strong command of the English language, including grammar, writing, and literature.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage students and promote a passion for reading and writing.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and flexibility in teaching practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a classroom setting and interact with students throughout the school day.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, typically Monday to Friday during the school year.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work for meetings, conferences, or school events.
