Job Overview:
The Head of School is the chief executive officer of the institution, responsible for providing leadership, direction, and overall management of the school. This role includes overseeing academic programs, student services, faculty, and administrative operations. The Head of School works with the school’s board, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to ensure that the institution delivers high-quality education, meets its strategic goals, and maintains a positive and inclusive school culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Vision:
    • Develop and articulate a clear vision and strategic direction for the school in collaboration with the board and leadership team.
    • Lead the school’s academic and extracurricular programs, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and values.
    • Foster a positive school culture based on respect, inclusion, and academic excellence.
    • Provide visionary leadership in shaping the future of the school and responding to educational trends and challenges.
  2. Academic and Curriculum Oversight:
    • Ensure the school offers a rigorous and well-rounded curriculum that supports the academic and personal growth of students.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of academic programs that are aligned with state/national standards and best practices.
    • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of teaching methods and student outcomes, making adjustments as necessary to improve learning.
  3. Faculty and Staff Management:
    • Hire, manage, and support faculty and staff, ensuring that they are highly qualified and receive professional development opportunities.
    • Promote a collaborative environment that encourages teacher innovation and continuous improvement.
    • Ensure that the school provides adequate training and resources to support faculty in delivering high-quality education.
    • Foster a positive and supportive work environment that enhances faculty and staff morale and retention.
  4. Student Welfare and Development:
    • Ensure the welfare and safety of all students, promoting their academic, social, and emotional well-being.
    • Support the development of programs that nurture the physical, emotional, and ethical growth of students.
    • Lead efforts to promote diversity, inclusion, and equity within the school community.
    • Work with the student support services team to address issues such as discipline, behavior, mental health, and special education needs.
  5. Financial and Operational Management:
    • Oversee the school’s budget, financial planning, and resource allocation, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
    • Collaborate with the board and administrative staff to secure funding, grants, and donations to support the school’s needs.
    • Ensure efficient management of school operations, including facilities, resources, and technology.
    • Implement policies and procedures to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the school.
  6. Strategic Planning and Institutional Advancement:
    • Lead the school’s long-term strategic planning process, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision and mission.
    • Develop and execute plans for institutional growth, including enrollment management, marketing, and outreach to prospective families.
    • Represent the school in the community, building relationships with parents, alumni, donors, and local organizations.
    • Advocate for the school’s interests with local and regional educational authorities.
  7. Board and Governance Relations:
    • Work closely with the Board of Trustees to ensure that the school adheres to its mission and strategic goals.
    • Provide regular reports to the Board on the school’s academic performance, financial status, and key developments.
    • Support the board in the recruitment of new trustees, providing advice on governance and policy matters.
  8. Compliance and Accreditation:
    • Ensure the school complies with all regulatory, legal, and accreditation requirements.

    • Keep the school community informed about changes in policies, procedures, and regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: A master’s degree in educational leadership, administration, or a related field is typically required. A doctoral degree (Ed.D or Ph.D.) is preferred for some institutions.

    • Significant experience in educational leadership, ideally with previous roles as a principal, assistant head of school, or in senior administrative positions.
