Job Overview:

The IT Lecturer is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Information Technology-related subjects. This includes developing and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, guiding students through their academic journey, and engaging in research and professional development activities. The role combines teaching, mentoring, and contributing to the growth and development of the IT department and its programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Instruction:
- Design, develop, and deliver IT-related courses in areas such as software development, networking, cybersecurity, databases, programming, and IT management.
- Prepare lesson plans, create assignments, quizzes, and exams that align with the course objectives.
- Teach both in-person and online classes using modern teaching technologies and platforms.
- Provide students with timely and constructive feedback on assignments, projects, and exams.
- Offer additional support to students through office hours, mentoring, and academic advising.
Research and Scholarship:
- Engage in ongoing research in the field of Information Technology, keeping up with the latest technological trends and advancements.
- Publish research in academic journals, conferences, or industry-related outlets.
- Contribute to departmental research initiatives and grant applications.
Curriculum Development:
- Collaborate with faculty members to design, update, and improve IT programs and courses.
- Ensure course materials are up-to-date with industry standards and technologies.
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles and ensure an engaging learning experience for students.
Service and Professional Development:
- Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and university activities.
- Contribute to the development of new programs and initiatives that support the institution’s mission and goals.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and developments in IT education.
- Engage with industry professionals and attend conferences to foster connections and gather insights to enrich teaching and research.
Student Support:
- Advise and mentor students regarding academic and career progression in IT.
- Help students with their final-year projects, dissertations, and research work.

Qualifications:

Education: A Master’s or Ph.D. in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience: Prior teaching experience in IT or related subjects at the tertiary level is preferred.
Skills:
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C++, etc.).
- Strong knowledge in IT infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, databases, or other related domains.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard) and online teaching platforms.
- Ability to mentor students and guide them through complex IT concepts and practical applications.

Work Environment:

The IT Lecturer will work in an academic environment, typically within a university or college, and may need to balance teaching responsibilities with research and administrative duties. Depending on the institution, the role may require flexibility in scheduling, including evening or weekend classes.
