Lab Attendant

Job Summary:

The Lab Attendant is responsible for providing technical and administrative support to the laboratory staff and students. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the laboratory equipment, preparing experiments, and ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory. The Lab Attendant will also provide assistance to students and staff with laboratory experiments, demonstrations, and other activities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain the laboratory equipment, instruments, and facilities in good working order. Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and calibrating equipment.
2. Experiment Preparation: Prepare experiments, demonstrations, and other laboratory activities as required. This includes setting up equipment, preparing materials, and ensuring that all necessary safety protocols are in place.
3. Technical Support: Provide technical support to students and staff with laboratory experiments, demonstrations, and other activities. This includes troubleshooting equipment, providing guidance on experimental techniques, and assisting with data collection and analysis.
4. Safety and Security: Ensure that the laboratory is a safe and secure environment for students and staff. This includes monitoring the laboratory for potential hazards, enforcing safety protocols, and reporting any incidents or accidents to the relevant authorities.
5. Inventory Management: Maintain an inventory of laboratory supplies, equipment, and materials. This includes ordering supplies, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring that all necessary equipment and materials are available when needed.
6. Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the laboratory staff and students. This includes answering phone calls, responding to emails, and performing other administrative tasks as required.
7. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with laboratory staff, students, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation of the laboratory. Communicate effectively with students, staff, and other stakeholders to provide technical support, answer questions, and resolve issues.

Requirements:

1. Education: Diploma or degree in a relevant field (e.g., science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
2. Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably in a technical or support role.
3. Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory techniques, equipment, and software. Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures.
4. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
5. Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot equipment, resolve technical issues, and think critically.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Certifications: Certifications in laboratory safety, equipment operation, or technical specialties (e.g., chemistry, biology, physics).
2. Advanced Education: Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., master’s or Ph.D.).
3. Research Experience: Research experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in a technical or support role.
4. Teaching Experience: Teaching experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in a technical or support role.
