LECTURER EDUCATION

Job Summary:

The Lecturer in Education is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the field of Education. This includes delivering engaging lectures, facilitating discussions, designing curriculum, and mentoring students. The Lecturer is also expected to contribute to research, curriculum development, and academic leadership in the education department. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching, research, and a deep understanding of educational theories and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Teaching and Curriculum Development:

  • Deliver high-quality lectures and seminars on topics related to Education, including educational theory, pedagogy, curriculum design, educational psychology, and teaching methods.

  • Develop course syllabi, lesson plans, and assessments, ensuring they align with program learning outcomes and academic standards.

  • Use a variety of instructional methods, such as lectures, group discussions, practical demonstrations, and online learning tools, to engage students effectively.

  • Provide individual support and mentoring to students, helping them develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Continuously evaluate and improve teaching methods and course materials to reflect current trends and research in the field of education.

2. Research and Scholarly Activities:

  • Engage in scholarly research related to education and pedagogy, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field.

  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, present at academic conferences, and contribute to the broader academic community.

  • Supervise and mentor students involved in research projects, including theses and dissertations.

  • Collaborate with other academics and professionals on interdisciplinary research projects, furthering the department’s academic reputation.

3. Student Assessment and Feedback:

  • Assess student performance through exams, assignments, projects, and presentations.

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their academic progress, offering guidance on how they can improve.

  • Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and other academic documentation in compliance with institutional policies.

4. Departmental and Institutional Service:

  • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum reviews, and other academic committees to contribute to the growth and development of the department.

  • Support accreditation processes and participate in quality assurance initiatives within the institution.

  • Provide academic advising and support to students, helping them with course selection, career planning, and personal development.

  • Contribute to university initiatives, such as open days, student recruitment events, and community outreach programs.

5. Professional Development:

  • Stay updated on the latest trends, theories, and research in education to continuously improve teaching practices.

  • Attend and present at professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance personal and professional growth.

  • Engage in networking opportunities with other academics and education professionals to stay informed about best practices in teaching and research.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Education: A Master’s degree in Education or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).

  • Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in teaching at the university level or in a similar academic role.

  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of educational theories, practices, and current trends in the field.

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

    • Ability to engage students effectively, fostering an environment of active learning.

    • Experience in curriculum design, course delivery, and student assessment.

    • Strong research skills, with the ability to publish scholarly work and contribute to academic discourse.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues on teaching and research projects.

Preferred:

  • A Ph.D. in Education or a closely related field.

  • Experience in supervising graduate-level students’ research.

  • Proven ability to integrate technology and innovative teaching methods in the classroom.

  • A track record of research publications and conference presentations in the field of education.

Work Environment:

  • Lecturers in Education typically work in a classroom or seminar setting, with regular office hours to meet with students.

  • The role may require occasional evening or weekend hours for teaching, grading, and attending academic conferences or seminars.

  • Some online or hybrid teaching may be involved, depending on the institution’s delivery model.
