Librarian
Job Summary:
The Librarian is a key member of the library team, responsible for providing high-quality library services to students, faculty, and staff. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organizational, and technical skills, and will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced academic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collection Development:
– Select and acquire library materials, including books, journals, databases, and other resources.
– Evaluate the library’s collections and make recommendations for weeding and replacement.
– Collaborate with faculty members to develop collections that support the curriculum.
1. Reference and Research Services:
– Provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
– Develop and teach library instruction sessions and workshops.
– Collaborate with faculty members to integrate library resources and services into the curriculum.
1. Cataloging and Classification:
– Catalog and classify library materials using standard library cataloging and classification systems.
– Maintain the library’s online public access catalog (OPAC) and ensure that it is accurate and up-to-date.
1. Library Operations:
– Participate in the planning and implementation of library policies and procedures.
– Collaborate with other library staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the library.
– Participate in library outreach and marketing efforts.
1. Technology and Digital Resources:
– Provide technical support for library systems and services.
– Develop and maintain the library’s digital collections and resources.
– Collaborate with other library staff members to ensure the effective use of technology in the library.
Requirements:
1. Education:
– Master’s degree in library science (MLS) or Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited program.
1. Experience:
– At least 2 years of experience working in a library, preferably in an academic library.
– Experience with library cataloging and classification systems, online public access catalogs (OPACs), and integrated library systems (ILSs).
