Library Attendant
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Library Attendant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support the daily operations of the library, including shelving books, checking out materials, and providing customer service to patrons.
Key Responsibilities:
Shelving and Maintenance:
– Shelf books, periodicals, and other library materials in a timely and accurate manner
– Maintain the organization and appearance of the library’s collections and facilities
– Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as dusting and cleaning shelves
Circulation and Customer Service:
– Check out materials to patrons and handle returns
– Answer patron inquiries and provide assistance with finding materials
– Resolve any issues or problems that may arise during the circulation process
Technical Services:
– Assist with processing and preparing new library materials for shelving
– Perform tasks related to cataloging and classification, such as labeling and shelving materials
– Assist with weeding and discarding outdated or damaged materials
Programs and Events:
– Assist with planning and executing library programs and events
– Set up and tear down equipment and materials for programs and events
– Provide support to program presenters and attendees
Other Duties:
– Perform other duties as assigned, such as answering phones, making copies, and running errands
Requirements:
Qualifications:
– High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in library science or a related field preferred
– 1-2 years of experience in a library or related setting
– Strong knowledge of library operations and procedures
Skills:
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
– Strong organizational and time management skills
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team
– Familiarity with library software and technology
Knowledge:
– Strong knowledge of library operations and procedures
– Understanding of library classification and cataloging systems
– Familiarity with library technology, including online public access catalogs and circulation systems
Desired Qualifications:
– Experience with library programming and outreach
– Familiarity with emerging trends and technologies in librarianship
– Certification in library support staff or a related field
