Position Overview:
The Head of Curriculum for Mathematics is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the mathematics curriculum across all grade levels within an educational institution. This leadership role requires deep expertise in mathematics education, a strong understanding of curriculum design, and the ability to guide and support teachers in delivering a high-quality, standards-aligned mathematics program. The Head of Curriculum for Mathematics will work closely with faculty, school leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure that the mathematics curriculum fosters student understanding, engagement, and success.
Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Leadership & Strategy:
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of a rigorous and cohesive mathematics curriculum for all grade levels (primary, secondary, or post-secondary).
- Ensure the curriculum is aligned with national/international educational standards, as well as the institution’s vision, mission, and goals.
- Set clear and measurable learning objectives for each mathematics course and subject area.
- Promote a curriculum that emphasizes both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.

Team Management & Collaboration:
- Lead and manage a team of mathematics teachers, curriculum coordinators, and subject heads to ensure the effective delivery of the mathematics curriculum.
- Foster a collaborative environment for mathematics teachers to share resources, strategies, and best practices.
- Provide ongoing professional development, training, and support to mathematics teachers to enhance instructional practices.
- Create a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging teachers to reflect on their practices and innovate in the classroom.

Curriculum Review & Assessment:
- Oversee regular review and evaluation of the mathematics curriculum to ensure it is current, effective, and relevant.
- Use data from student assessments, feedback from teachers, and educational research to inform curriculum revisions and improvements.
- Ensure that the mathematics curriculum is appropriately differentiated to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with special educational needs and those excelling in mathematics.

Integration of Technology & Innovation:
- Lead efforts to integrate educational technology into the mathematics curriculum, promoting the use of digital tools, resources, and online platforms.
- Encourage the use of innovative teaching strategies, including flipped classrooms, project-based learning, and real-world applications of mathematics.
- Stay informed about emerging trends in mathematics education and advocate for the incorporation of best practices and new pedagogies.

Assessment Development & Implementation:
- Design and implement assessments that accurately measure student understanding and progress in mathematics.
- Work closely with mathematics teachers to align assessments with the curriculum, ensuring they are fair, reliable, and valid.
- Analyze student performance data to assess the effectiveness of the curriculum and make data-driven decisions to improve student outcomes.
- Ensure the use of formative and summative assessments, as well as standardized testing, to guide instructional decisions and track progress.

Alignment with Educational Standards & Policies:
- Ensure that the mathematics curriculum aligns with local, national, and international educational standards and frameworks.
- Monitor changes in educational policies, standards, and research related to mathematics education, making necessary adjustments to the curriculum as needed.
- Ensure that all courses and instructional materials are compliant with relevant accreditation bodies and regulations.

Resource Management & Support:
- Oversee the selection, development, and use of instructional materials, textbooks, digital resources, and manipulatives for mathematics teaching.
- Ensure teachers have access to high-quality resources and materials to support effective instruction.
- Manage the curriculum budget for mathematics-related resources and professional development initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
- Collaborate with school leadership, parents, and the wider school community to communicate the goals and progress of the mathematics curriculum.
- Provide regular updates to senior leadership on curriculum implementation, student achievement, and areas for improvement.
- Foster relationships with external partners, including universities, professional organizations, and industry leaders, to enhance the mathematics curriculum and provide enrichment opportunities for students.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).
- Extensive experience in teaching mathematics at K-12 or higher education levels.
- Proven experience in curriculum development and leadership, particularly in mathematics education.
- Strong knowledge of national and international mathematics standards (e.g., Common Core, IGCSE, IB, etc.).
- Experience with assessment design and data analysis to inform instructional decisions.
- Experience in leading and supporting teachers in implementing curriculum changes and innovations.
- Familiarity with integrating technology into mathematics teaching and learning.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification or specialized training in curriculum development, instructional leadership, or mathematics education.
- Experience with advanced mathematical topics (e.g., calculus, statistics, or algebra) and their teaching at higher levels.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and implementing differentiated instruction.
- Familiarity with mathematics education software and online learning platforms.
- Knowledge of the latest research in mathematics pedagogy.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and improve the mathematics curriculum.
- Ability to think strategically and lead the development of a high-quality, engaging, and standards-aligned curriculum.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Ability to mentor, support, and inspire mathematics educators to achieve excellence in teaching and student learning outcomes.
Work Environment:
Typically works in an educational setting (school or university), with occasional travel for conferences or professional development events.
