Teacher Assistant
Position Overview:
A Teacher Assistant provides support to teachers in the classroom, helping to ensure a positive and productive learning environment. This role involves assisting with lesson preparation, student supervision, administrative tasks, and providing one-on-one or small group support to students. Teacher Assistants help manage classroom activities, support students with special needs, and contribute to the overall smooth operation of the classroom. This position is ideal for someone with a passion for education and a desire to make a positive impact on student learning.
Key Responsibilities:

Classroom Support & Assistance:
- Assist the lead teacher in preparing lesson materials, activities, and resources for classroom instruction.
- Support students in understanding and completing assigned tasks during lessons, providing guidance and explanations as needed.
- Help manage classroom behavior and ensure a positive, respectful, and focused learning environment.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, breaks, and transitions to ensure their safety and well-being.

Small Group & One-on-One Instruction:
- Provide individualized or small group support to students who need extra help with classwork, assignments, or specific learning challenges.
- Assist with differentiated instruction to meet the varied learning needs of students, including those with special educational needs (SEN).
- Reinforce lessons taught by the teacher and offer additional explanations or clarification to students who may be struggling.

Student Supervision & Engagement:
- Monitor and supervise students during non-classroom activities, such as lunch, recess, or field trips, ensuring their safety and behavior.
- Encourage active participation and engagement in classroom activities, helping to create an inclusive and supportive atmosphere.
- Assist with organizing and leading classroom activities, projects, and experiments, ensuring that students stay on task and remain engaged.

Administrative & Clerical Tasks:
- Assist with grading assignments, marking tests, and recording student progress.
- Help prepare and organize classroom materials, such as worksheets, handouts, or instructional resources.
- Perform other administrative tasks, including filing, copying, and managing student records or attendance logs.
- Help maintain an organized and clean classroom environment.

Supporting Students with Special Needs:
- Work closely with students with special needs, providing them with the additional support they need to participate in class activities.
- Follow individual education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, offering tailored assistance as specified.
- Help implement behavior management strategies to support students with behavioral or emotional needs.

Communication & Collaboration:
- Communicate regularly with the teacher about student progress, classroom activities, and any issues or concerns.
- Work closely with other staff members, such as special education teachers or counselors, to provide coordinated support for students.
- Assist in organizing and supporting parent-teacher conferences, school events, and other activities as needed.

Professional Development & Learning:
- Participate in professional development opportunities to improve skills and stay current with educational practices and classroom strategies.
- Stay informed about new educational technologies, teaching methods, and resources that can enhance student learning and classroom management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require an associate’s degree or higher).
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Basic understanding of educational principles and classroom management.
- Ability to work well in a team environment, assisting the teacher and collaborating with other staff members.
- Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude toward working with students of all backgrounds and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some college coursework in education or child development (for certain positions, this may be required).
- Experience working with students with special educational needs or behavioral challenges.
- First aid and CPR certification (may be required in some schools).
- Familiarity with classroom technology and educational software.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to support the teacher with classroom management and instructional activities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage tasks and assist with classroom duties.
- Ability to work with diverse student populations, including students with varying learning abilities.

Work Environment:
The Teacher Assistant works primarily in a classroom setting, providing support to students and teachers during school hours. Some positions may require assisting with extracurricular activities, field trips, or after-school programs. The role may require physical activity, such as moving classroom materials or supervising students during physical activities.
Employment Type:
Full-time or part-time position, depending on the school or district’s needs. Some Teacher Assistant roles may be contract-based or temporary.
