Transport Officer

Job Description:

A Transport Officer is responsible for overseeing and managing the transportation operations of an organization. This includes ensuring the efficient use and maintenance of vehicles, coordinating transportation schedules, ensuring compliance with regulations, and managing transport-related issues. The Transport Officer plays a critical role in ensuring safe, cost-effective, and timely transportation services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fleet Management:

    • Oversee the management of the organization’s fleet of vehicles (company cars, trucks, buses, etc.).

    • Ensure that vehicles are regularly maintained, serviced, and roadworthy.

    • Monitor fuel usage, vehicle efficiency, and maintenance schedules to minimize costs.

  • Transport Planning and Coordination:

    • Plan and coordinate transportation schedules to meet operational requirements.

    • Organize and dispatch vehicles for various company needs, including employee transportation, deliveries, or logistics support.

    • Develop and implement routes and schedules to optimize efficiency.

  • Compliance & Safety:

    • Ensure that all transportation activities comply with local laws, regulations, and safety standards.

    • Ensure drivers are properly trained, licensed, and adhere to safety protocols.

    • Perform regular safety inspections and ensure vehicles comply with insurance and registration requirements.

  • Driver Management:

    • Supervise and manage the transport team, including drivers and support staff.

    • Develop and implement driver training programs to promote safety and efficiency.

    • Monitor driver performance, including driving habits, adherence to schedules, and customer service.

  • Cost Management & Budgeting:

    • Prepare and manage the transport budget, including vehicle maintenance, fuel, and operational costs.

    • Look for opportunities to reduce costs through better route planning or fuel-efficient practices.

  • Documentation & Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, maintenance logs, and driver hours.

    • Prepare reports on transportation activities, costs, and fleet performance for senior management.

  • Customer Service & Communication:

    • Ensure timely and effective communication with other departments and employees requiring transport services.

    • Address any transport-related complaints or issues from staff or customers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in transportation management or fleet coordination (typically 2–5 years).

  • Knowledge of relevant transport laws, safety regulations, and best practices.
