 Vice Chancellor

Job Description:

The Vice Chancellor is the chief executive officer and academic leader of the university, responsible for providing visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to ensure the achievement of the institution’s mission, goals, and values. The Vice Chancellor plays a critical role in shaping academic excellence, research innovation, institutional governance, and stakeholder engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership and management of the university’s academic, administrative, and financial affairs.

  • Develop and implement strategic plans in alignment with the university’s mission and vision.

  • Promote a culture of academic excellence, innovation, inclusivity, and research advancement.

  • Foster partnerships with government agencies, academic institutions, industry leaders, and international organizations.

  • Oversee the development and execution of policies to ensure compliance with national and international higher education standards.

  • Ensure effective governance by working collaboratively with the University Council, Senate, faculty, and administrative bodies.

  • Drive resource mobilization efforts, including fundraising, grant acquisition, and strategic investments.

  • Represent the university at public, academic, and professional events locally and internationally.

  • Promote student success, staff development, and institutional sustainability.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant academic discipline.

  • Proven record of academic leadership, research, and teaching excellence.

  • Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education.

  • Strong understanding of university governance, strategic planning, and academic administration.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead change, foster innovation, and build collaborative relationships.

  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills.

  • Commitment to ethical leadership, diversity, and academic integrity.

Desirable Attributes:

  • International exposure or collaboration in higher education.

  • Experience with accreditation processes and quality assurance frameworks.

  • Familiarity with digital transformation and eLearning strategies.

  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and foster alumni and donor engagement.
