Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Leadership:

    • Develop and implement the organization’s overall learning and development strategy.

    • Align learning and educational programs with the institution’s or company’s long-term goals and mission.

    • Work with senior leadership to define learning needs and integrate them into organizational strategy.

    • Lead the creation of learning frameworks, policies, and guidelines for consistent educational standards across the organization.

  2. Program Oversight and Development:

    • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of training programs, curricula, and educational resources.

    • Ensure that learning programs meet the diverse needs of different learners, including employees, students, or customers.

    • Create and maintain a system for assessing the effectiveness of learning programs and making data-driven improvements.

    • Ensure that content is up-to-date, relevant, and adheres to industry standards.

  3. Team Leadership and Management:

    • Lead and manage a team of instructional designers, educators, trainers, and other learning professionals.

    • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for learning teams.

    • Foster a collaborative environment where ideas and best practices can be shared.

    • Oversee the recruitment and development of top talent within the learning and development departments.

  4. Innovation and Technology Integration:

    • Stay ahead of learning trends, technologies, and methodologies to ensure programs are innovative and effective.

    • Champion the use of learning management systems (LMS), e-learning platforms, virtual classrooms, and other educational technologies.

    • Explore new ways to enhance learning experiences through gamification, simulations, and interactive content.

  5. Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with department heads, senior executives, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between learning initiatives and business objectives.

    • Serve as a liaison between academic leadership (if in a university) or corporate leadership (if in a business context) and learning teams.

    • Regularly report on the success and progress of learning programs, using data to drive decision-making.

    • Provide thought leadership on the importance of learning within the organization and advocate for necessary resources.

  6. Budgeting and Resource Management:

    • Oversee the budget for learning and development programs, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

    • Make data-driven decisions about investments in technology, training materials, and personnel.

    • Ensure the department operates within financial constraints while meeting organizational learning objectives.

  7. Evaluation and Continuous Improvement:

    • Lead the evaluation of training effectiveness using key performance indicators (KPIs), learner feedback, and performance outcomes.

    • Adjust and improve programs based on feedback, changing needs, and evolving trends.

    • Implement processes to measure the return on investment (ROI) for learning initiatives and ensure continual improvement.

  8. External Relations and Partnerships:

    • Build relationships with external educational institutions, vendors, and consultants to enhance the organization’s learning offerings.

    • Explore partnerships for certification programs, courses, or research collaborations that can support the learning strategy.

    • Represent the organization at conferences, seminars, and other events focused on learning, development, and innovation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Typically requires an advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Education, Learning and Development, Organizational Leadership, or a related field.

    • Professional certifications in learning and development, instructional design, or education technology (e.g., CPLP, SHRM-SCP) are often preferred.

  • Experience:

    • Extensive experience (usually 10+ years) in educational leadership, learning and development, or instructional design, with a proven track record in managing large-scale learning initiatives.

    • Previous experience in a senior role such as Director of Learning, Head of Education, or similar leadership positions is often required.

    • Experience managing budgets, large teams, and complex projects.

  • Skills:

    • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

    • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and stakeholders.

    • Deep knowledge of instructional design, adult learning theory, and learning technologies.

    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
