Job Summary:
The Head Teacher is responsible for overseeing the academic progress and development of students in their designated department or grade level. This role involves leadership and coordination of teaching staff, the implementation of the curriculum, and ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning. The Head Teacher will be a key member of the school leadership team, contributing to the development of school policies and supporting the strategic direction of the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:

- Lead and manage the teaching staff within the department or grade level, ensuring high-quality teaching and effective learning strategies are implemented.
- Provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities for teachers to improve their teaching practices.
- Monitor the academic progress of students and identify areas of improvement, working with staff to implement strategies for student success.
- Manage and allocate resources within the department, including teaching materials, classroom space, and technology.
- Curriculum Development and Implementation:

- Oversee the implementation of the curriculum in alignment with national and school standards.
- Ensure that all teaching staff follow the curriculum guidelines and maintain consistency across lessons.
- Review and evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and suggest improvements based on student outcomes and feedback.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure an integrated approach to teaching and learning across subjects.
- Assessment and Student Progress:

- Ensure the use of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, and analyze results to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Support teachers in creating and implementing assessments that accurately measure student learning and performance.
- Review student achievement data and provide interventions or support plans for underperforming students.
- Communicate with parents or guardians regarding student progress and work with them to address any concerns.
- Classroom Observation and Support:

- Regularly observe teaching practices in classrooms, providing constructive feedback to staff to improve instructional techniques.
- Offer support and mentoring to new or less experienced teachers, helping them integrate into the school environment and develop their teaching skills.
- Help maintain effective classroom management strategies and resolve any discipline issues that arise within the department or grade level.
- School Policies and Procedures:

- Ensure that all school policies, including health and safety regulations, are adhered to within the department.
- Contribute to the development and review of school policies, particularly those related to curriculum, student behavior, and academic standards.
- Work with the principal and other school leaders to promote a positive school culture and ensure the values of the school are reflected in everyday practices.
- Professional Development and Training:

- Lead regular department meetings to share teaching strategies, discuss student progress, and stay informed about the latest educational developments.
- Organize and facilitate training and workshops to help teachers enhance their skills in pedagogy, technology integration, and classroom management.
- Stay up to date with educational best practices, innovations, and regulatory changes and share this information with the teaching staff.
- Collaboration and Communication:

- Foster a collaborative, supportive environment within the department, encouraging team teaching, peer observations, and shared resources.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership, keeping all stakeholders informed of academic progress and any issues that arise.
- Represent the department at school leadership meetings, contributing to decision-making processes that affect the school’s academic direction.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Education:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (required).
- A Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership (preferred).
- Relevant teaching certifications (required).
- Experience:

- Significant experience as a teacher with a proven track record of effective teaching and student success.
- At least [X] years of leadership experience, preferably as a department head, subject leader, or in a similar role.
- Experience in curriculum design, assessment strategies, and professional development.
